How it Works - 3D Virtual Inspections

3D Reality Capture uses 360-degree cameras like the Insta 360 X3 to create a full three dimensional environment of the construction site. This is done by taking multiple images of the site using these cameras, which software later stitches together seamlessly. Once ready, a reviewer can access it in a way very similar to what it appears like on Google Street View. Now, sitting in the comfort of an office hundreds of miles away, a building expert can conduct a construction review.

The process begins with the applicant logging on to the portal and requesting a review. They will need to send information like names, locations and floor plans (when available). Once the request is sent, a reviewer will be assigned to the project.

Back at the construction site, a 3D camera will be leased/rented/shipped for the project and used to scan the entire site. To do this, a person can simply walk around the entire site with a 360 degree camera taking pictures and ensuring all relevant areas are captured. These pictures are then uploaded via the internet to the 3DRBi platform, which processes the images to create a 3D walkthrough environment of the site for the inspector to review. Now the inspector gets to work, virtually inspecting the entire project with tools specialized in construction projects. Inspectors can accurately measure heights and distances as well as zoom in on areas. If they want to add comments or suggestions, they can easily take screenshots or add pinned comments to this rendering.

The scanning process can also be conducted throughout the construction process, for reviewers to gain a historical perspective to see progress and whether past concerns were satisfactorily addressed.

Finally, the inspector creates their report with any additional comments they may have and sends it to the applicant who requested it. Once sent, the applicant can continue having conversations with the reviewer to better address queries and resolve concerns.

3DRBi Benefits

3DRBi provides substantial costs savings by reducing the costs associated with:

  • travel costs for inspectors to get to your community

  • professional fees associated with travel

  • construction delays
